What is the best Digital Film camera to buy to achieve a High Definition feature film quality look?
I am looking to buy a high definition digital camera but I am not sure what to get. I want to shoot a short-length independent film, and I want to get a camera that will give me that HD feature film quality look. Ive been looking at a few cameras including the Panasonic Pro AG-HMC150 and HMC40, but I still can’t make a decision. Does anybody know what camera would be best for the job and at a reasonable price?
The Panasonics should do the trick, as would any of the Canon X-series (e.g. the XF100 or the lesser specified XA10), or the more affordable Sony NXCAM-series (e.g. HXRMC2000U – < US$ 2,000). If money isn't an issue I'd go for the Red-series, such as the Red One or Epic, which will cost anywhere between US$ 25,000 and $ 50,000.
Mind you, accessories such as extra battery packs, lenses, remote controls, audio connectors, reflectors etc. too, are an investment in their own right.
Eventually though, it all boils down to Your Own cinematic skills. Youtube and especially Vimeo abound with excellent, ultra low-budget short films, made with digital HD pocket camcorders.
